About Kick Off:
This is a pretty solid, retro arcade styled, twin-stick shooter. There is a rain of blood, bullets and explosions at every turn with plenty of destructable landscape and baddies to take out. The movement and aim is pretty fluid making it easy to get into the action. There is nothing exceptional to this title but that doesn’t prevent it from being a blast, at least in short play sessions. You do get a handful of different toons to select from. They all play the same, but you get to level them up and distribute attribute points for each one. There are also four difficulty settings to play through so you can choose what matches your mood that day. I think the price of this game is a little high for what it offers, but it’s still a pretty fun game. If you like retro arcade action, then go ahead and get your Rambo on and try out this title! it was only the momentum of that first fun that carried me to the final act. Kick Ass Commandos gets repetitve fast. Some have called it a bullet hell shooter but it’s not. The slightly springy camera makes precision dodging difficult. The enemies bullets are small and fast and don’t come in patterns, their only attack style is to shoot straight at the player with some random spread. The gameplay leans more to a stats/grind style than a skill based shooter. The Easy difficulty setting is far to easy but the Elite (second) difficulty requires levelling up health and damage before they can be meaningfully attempted. The core feature, the Commando companions, is a bit of a gimmick. There is no way to change their formation except to squish them into walls. At the beginning of the game they’re overpowerd but towards the end they’re useless except as brief bullet sponges.
