Overview Steins;gate:
STEINS;GATE is the award-winning time travel science-fiction interactive visual novel developed by 5pb. and Nitroplus. It is widely considered to be one of the finest Visual Novels ever made. STEINS;GATE follows a rag-tag band of tech-savvy young students who discover the means of changing the past via mail, using a modified microwave. Their experiments into how far they can go with their discovery begin to spiral out of control as they become entangled in a conspiracy surrounding SERN, the organisation behind the Large Hadron Collider, and John Titor who claims to be from a dystopian future. Interaction with the game takes place through the “phone trigger” system, where the player can receive calls and text messages and decide whether to reply to them or not, changing the outcome of the game’s plot. It starts off a bit slow, but once things get going, they get GOING. The interactions feel nice and are always fun, even when not directly relevant to the story. None of the dialogue feels forced, and the story is always captivating. The switches of tone are always seamless, and the game is never afraid to surprise the player. Even as someone who has experienced steins gate before, there was a point where I was at the edge of my seat nearly every consecutive chapter. Of course, this does not mean the game is without flaws. The controls are not exactly crystal clear in the beginning (especially if you are playing on keyboard), and there are a couple moments where the movement of the characters sprites is awkward/does not fit the emotion of the scene. Other than those smaller issues, this game is fantastic and I absolutely recommend it to everyone. Even if you aren’t a fan of visual novels, I strongly recommend giving this one a chance.
